COLORADO WILDFLOWERS

Welcome to my gallery of Colorado wildflowers. I have selected a few of the thousands of wildflower photos I have taken over the years, ones which are more common in each life zone, flowers which you are more likely to encounter as you travel each zone. I have attempted to correctly identify each flower with the correct common and scientific name. However, there are many species within some families which are difficult to differentiate, especially the aster and figwort (penstemons) families. SHORTGRASS PRAIRIE ZONE
4,000 to 6,000 feet elevation Basically all of eastern Colorado
FOOTHILLS ZONE
6,000 to 8,000 feet elevation
MONTANE ZONE
8,000 to 10,000 feet elevation
ALPINE-SUBALPINE ZONE
10,000 feet and higher elevation
